Church Langton CofE Primary School

Our Facilities

Our children and teachers benefit from excellent facilities. We are committed to providing an extremely broad curriculum and are helped in this by having facilities to support the teaching and learning.

Outdoor Learning

Our school is situated on a beautiful site with rolling fields surrounding the school field, garden and outdoor classroom. These are used extensively for various activities and lessons throughout the year.

Our children benefit enormously from spending time outside, exploring the natural world, and applying some of their numeracy and literacy skills as well as developing their independent learning styles. Being outside gives them opportunities to do things in different ways and on different scales, to learn about the various natural habitats and to experience the changing weather and seasons.

By participating in an enormous range of practical activities, our pupilslearn how to keep themselves and each other safe and how to work together on various projects.

All this has a positive impact on our children’s sense of well-being and helps all aspects of their development.

Learning outdoors can be a valuable tool to bring new concepts and ideas alive. Through outdoor learning we aim to introduce the children to common birds, trees and animals and encourage them to look out for them in the wider world. We aspire for our children to be able to name and talk confidently about their habitats, food requirements and how to respect living things. We develop skills of co-operation and working as part of a team. We encourage children to talk about and analyse the things they see around them and raise awareness of changes over time. Many aspects of work in the classroom can be brought outside and whatever the weather on a Wednesday afternoon, we will be outside.

Astroturf

Our Astroturf pitch was officially opened in May 2014 by Leicester Tigers player Seramaia Bai and Leicestershire Cricket Club Lewis Hill.

The pitch is used all year round for fixtures, extra-curricular clubs and playtimes.

Sports Hall

Our school is very fortunate that the village has the wonderful resource of the Langton Community Hall.

The hall, measuring 10 square metres by 15 square metres is used throughout the school day and after school every evening for a wide range of activities.

Our children make use of the hall for:

  • Badminton
  • Fencing
  • Gymnastics
  • Hockey
  • Table Tennis
  • Taekwondo

Playing Fields

In addition to a high specification Astroturf facility, the school has a large playing field.

The field has space for three football pitches and is also used for cricket matches and an athletics track in the summer term.

We also make good use of our playing field, which is ideal for all school events and sports days. There is plenty of space for a variety of races with plenty of space for families to come and spectate.

Story Telling Stage

Our story telling area is located within the school grounds, with wonderful views across the surrounding fields. An ideal location for pupils to enjoy a story with their teacher or to read to an adult.

The space is a memorial to former pupil, Alice Ruggles. Alice is remembered through the wonderful experiences the children have using this wonderful resource.

Langtons Cricket Club

We are very fortunate to have access to the cricket nets and pitch at Langtons Cricket Club. We have regular practices and matches throughout the summer term.
