PE and Sport
PE & Sports Premium at Church Langton
At Church Langton, we are committed to fostering a lifelong passion for sport and physical activity. Every child is encouraged to develop a wide range of physical skills through diverse and engaging opportunities.
We are thrilled to share that, for the fourth consecutive year, Church Langton has been awarded the GOLD School Games Mark for 2024/25.
Curriculum PE
All year groups receive weekly PE lessons (2 hours) aligned with the National Curriculum. These lessons cover both indoor and outdoor sports, including football, rugby, hockey, netball, and cricket, as well as gymnastics and dance. Our extensive outdoor facilities—including a field, playground, netball court, and all-weather pitch—enable us to offer a broad and inclusive PE curriculum.
In addition, all children participate in a six-week enrichment programme that introduces them to a variety of sports and promotes healthy lifestyle choices.
Extra-Curricular Opportunities
We offer a range of after-school sports clubs led by qualified external coaches. These clubs provide children with the chance to enjoy physical activity in a fun, non-competitive environment. Current offerings include Tae-Kwon-Do, basketball, street dance and football.
Active Lunchtimes
In 2025, we introduced the ‘Happy Lunchtimes’ initiative, supported by whole-staff training. This programme encourages children to be active during lunchtimes through structured play and inclusive physical activities.
Competitive Sport
Through our membership in the South Leicestershire School Sports Partnership, we regularly participate in inter-school competitions. These events give our pupils the chance to compete both individually and as part of a team. Highlights include:
- Cross-country meets
- Swimming Gala
- An evening athletics event at Corby
- A KS1 multi-sports festival at RSA
- A Year 3 mini-Olympics with local schools
Our pupils consistently perform well and enjoy success in these highly competitive events.
Swimming Outcomes
As of July 2024, 75% of our Year 6 cohort (29 pupils) met the national swimming standard. These pupils were able to:
- Swim competently, confidently, and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres
- Use a range of strokes effectively
- Perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations
Use of the PE and Sport Premium
The PE and Sport Premium is government funding provided to help primary schools improve the quality of PE, physical activity, and sport. Schools are expected to use this funding to:
- Enhance or expand the current PE and sport provision
- Build sustainable capacity to benefit future pupils
At Church Langton, we use this funding strategically to ensure a long-term impact on pupils’ physical development and wellbeing.
A copy of our latest digital report on the use of the Sport Premium can be accessed via the attachments at the bottom of this page.
